PROJECT K

BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS – COLLABORATIVE ART TRAIL

BACKGROUND

A collection of nine 3D koalas each designed by a different Bright Young Things member, all housed in independent shops around York. Crafted help raise awareness of the on going work the Koala Crisis have after the devastating Australian bush fires.

ART

Our artworks reflected on commodification and was inspired by barcodes.

‘Pop culture, advertisements, mainstream, and capital. These are all aspects of commodification—the act of taking something’s original form and commercialising it, turning it into an object of trade and capital. Commodification is socially constructed and involves businesses taking things such as identity and language and turning aspects of them into a service or good. Commodification plays a large role in how society views subcultures and deviance. ‘

Our commodification koala was on display at Just Smile Designs, Bootham, York.
